Young Thug Publicly Pitches Kodak Black for a YSL Deal After Kodak Leaves Capitol

Young Thug publicly offered Kodak Black a YSL deal after Kodak left Capitol, following the release of the 26-song mixtape Kodak the Blessing.

Young Thug used X to make an unmistakable, public offer to Kodak Black on Sunday (June 21), telling the Florida rapper he would sign him to YSL and “give that boy whateva he think he want” now that Kodak has officially parted ways with Capitol Records and is once again an independent artist.

If he would do a deal with me, I would give that boy whateva he think he want #NoCizzy,

The tweet landed as more than a casual shout; it followed reports that Kodak’s stint with Capitol has ended. Kodak originally left Atlantic after an eight-year run and signed a reported multimillion-dollar deal with Capitol in 2022. That agreement produced his Capitol debut, When I Was Dead, released later in 2023 after he completed a six-album commitment to Atlantic with Pistolz & Pearlz.

Where Kodak stands

His final project for Capitol, Kodak the Blessing, dropped as a surprise mixtape to mark his 29th birthday and runs 26 songs deep. The record features contributions from 1900Rugrat, Albee Al, Fridayy, Reese Youngn, Rylo Rodriguez and more. Industry observers are treating Kodak’s split with Capitol as the start of a new, independent chapter for the Florida-born rapper.

Young Thug’s public pitch suggests YSL is actively looking at expanding its roster beyond the current lineup — which already includes Strick, Yung Kayo, 1300Saint, Tezzus and Diamond*. If Kodak were to sign, he would join those names under Thugger’s imprint.

For now, Kodak has not responded to Thug’s offer. The exchange lays out a simple possibility: an established label head making an open, almost old-school industry pitch in a moment when artists are recalibrating what label affiliation means in a post-streaming era.
