A single line from Latto's "Hostage" sparked a viral crab leg meme; the rapper joined fans by posting AI images of herself with crab legs on Instagram.

A single line from Latto’s Big Mama cut “Hostage” has turned into one of the odder, funniest microtrends of the moment: fans AI-ing themselves into everyday scenes with crab legs where arms should be, and the Atlanta rapper has been willingly tugged into the joke.
On Tuesday (June 9), Latto leaned into the joke on Instagram, sharing AI-generated images of herself looking glamorous with crab legs superimposed onto her body. In another, she appears bagged up in a seafood boil, the kind of absurd visual someone posts when an offhand lyric goes fully literal.
The origin is straightforward. On “Hostage,” a Big Mama track that features the baby’s father, 21 Savage, Latto compares a lover’s desire to a culinary craving:
“He wanna crack these legs open like I need butter and cajun.”
Fans took that line and ran, producing a cascade of images that splice crab legs into everyday life. Latto’s own uploads — glossy, knowingly silly — feel less like a performative clapback and more like a performer enjoying how a single lyric can mutate into pop culture detritus.
There’s a self-aware looseness to it: the rapper who just became a mom is not above laughing at herself, or at least at a metaphor that invited very literal reinterpretation.
Elsewhere, the story around Latto has been more serious in recent weeks. On May 18 she confirmed that she and 21 Savage welcomed their first child together, a daughter, sharing an Instagram video that mapped a short, public arc from studio sessions to vacations, a baby shower and prenatal moments. The visual leaned into personal detail: it featured 21 Savage’s trademark knife imagery woven through the baby shower decor and included a touching scene in which the Slaughter Gang leader helps with an ultrasound.
The new parent, 27, has balanced that life change with promotional work and interviews; she’s also sat down with Nadeska Alexis to discuss her new album, motherhood and the rumors that she was going to retire from music.
For now, the internet is hungry in the most literal and ridiculous way. Latto’s turn in the crab leg meme is an example of how a lyric can escape a song and find a life of its own, one AI image at a time.
