ScHoolboy Q Announces New Album Thank Que After Quitting Weed

ScHoolboy Q is kicking off a new era, and he’s doing it with a title that feels pointedly personal. On Wednesday, July 9, the TDE rapper posted a studio photo to his Instagram Story and used it to make the announcement: a 12-song album called Thank Que is finished and on the way.

“New chapter,” Q wrote over the image. “Wrapping up this 12-song album called Thank Que. Been working on this for a minute. Yes I’m coming back.”

The project will follow Blue Lips, his widely praised 2024 album, which included appearances from Freddie Gibbs, Rico Nasty, Ab-Soul, AK Chike and others. That record also opened at No. 13 on the Billboard 200, keeping Q very much in the conversation even as his rollout remained relatively measured.

Thank Que also marks a first for the Los Angeles rapper: it will be his first LP made without being under the influence. In May, Q told the Par 3 Podcast with J.R. Smith & Stephen Malbon that he had stopped smoking weed after years of doing it heavily, saying he’d hit a wall after lighting up as many as 20 times a day.

“At some point, it ain’t really doing nothing,” Q said. “You just got this orgal fixation.”

He said the decision was less about the drugs themselves than the example he wanted to set for his daughters. As he put it, quitting was about showing them that real change is possible when you commit to it.

“[Weed] does hae health benefits for some people,” Q added. “But the way I was doing it, no. But most importantly, you can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

Q has also said he doesn’t plan to smoke again. For now, the focus is on the album and the next phase it signals. He confirmed the news with the studio post, and the message was blunt enough: he’s not just back, he’s moving differently.
