Kid Cudi says he and Ye are rebuilding their friendship, hinting that a future collaboration may still happen.

Kid Cudi and Ye may be inching back toward the kind of relationship that once made their collaborations feel inevitable. On Sunday, July 19, Cudi told a fan on X that the two are in the process of repairing a friendship that had been fractured for years, and that the conversation between them lately has been less about music than simply checking in.
“Im sure we will yea. Right now were rebuilding our friendship,” Cudi wrote when asked whether he’d ever work with Ye again after their 2022 fallout. “I hit him a week ago to check in on him, today he hit me to check on me. No work talk. Just seeing how I was doing. It was nice.”
Cudi’s history with Ye runs deep. He signed to Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music Records in 2008 and, even after leaving the label in 2013, the two remained closely linked as friends and creative partners. A brief dispute in 2016 never fully severed that bond, but the public split in 2022 did serious damage, sparked by Cudi’s friendship with Kim Kardashian’s then-boyfriend, Pete Davidson.
That rupture played out loudly online, with the pair trading comments back and forth before a short-lived thaw arrived in late 2023. Cudi was seen at a listening party for Vultures, and months later a Cudi verse appeared on Vultures 2, though he reportedly didn’t know it was coming. For a moment, it looked like the old connection might be resurfacing.
But by 2025, Cudi was sounding much more final. Speaking to CBS Mornings, he said he was done with Ye for several reasons, pointing especially to Ye’s comments about Virgil Abloh after his death. “There’s no coming back from that, man,” Cudi said. “I’m done with you. And it breaks my heart because I loved Kanye. I really loved him. He was part of my life changing and at some point, he was a really good friend, but the man that he has become…I just don’t know that guy anymore.”
Elsewhere, Cudi seemed to be softening again this past April when he shouted Ye out on tour before performing their collaboration, “Reborn.” That moment now reads like part of a slow, cautious reset rather than a full reconciliation, but it does suggest the door is no longer shut.
