Prosecutors Seek to Use Lil Durk’s “Pissed Me Off” Video as Evidence in Murder-For-Hire Trial

A month before Lil Durk is set to face trial in his murder-for-hire case, federal prosecutors are trying to bring one of his music videos into the courtroom. Their latest filing asks to play “Pissed Me Off” for the jury and enter the song into evidence, part of a broader round of motions submitted Monday, July 27, by both sides ahead of the hearing.

The track, released in 2021 on 7220, arrived a year after the death of Durk’s friend and fellow Only the Family artist King Von. Prosecutors say the song’s retaliatory language matters to their case. Durk, they allege, paid five men to kill Quando Rondo in 2022 as revenge for King Von, who was shot and killed in November 2020 by Quando Rondo’s associate Timothy Leeks.

On “Pissed Me Off,” Durk raps:

“Boy, no cap, I got killers that I love and they don’t rap (Let’s get it)/Boy, no cap (No cap), I got rappers that I love and they gon’ splat (Gon’ splat)/If I die, just don’t lie, man, you ni**as better slide (You ni**as better slide)/If you can’t get the main ni**a, then you better get his guys (Brrah).”

The video itself, which has been circulated alongside the motion, shows Durk holding stacks of cash and making hand gestures that appear to simulate firing a gun. Prosecutors want that footage shown to jurors as they build their argument.

Durk’s attorneys have repeatedly objected to that approach, arguing that lyrics and videos are creative expression, not admissions of criminal conduct. They also filed a separate motion seeking to suppress evidence pulled from a cellphone, saying the device and its contents were seized and searched unlawfully.

Several of the competing motions are scheduled to be heard on Aug. 13 before U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald. Lil Durk’s murder-for-hire trial is currently set to begin on Aug. 20.
