YG Fires Back After Glasses Malone Says Drake Is Trying to Get Him Arrested
YG responds after Glasses Malone claims Drake is trying to get him arrested over the Drakeo the Ruler case.
In the latest turn around the Drakeo the Ruler case, YG jumped online after Glasses Malone suggested Drake may be trying to get him arrested.
Glasses made the claim on a recent podcast episode while discussing YG’s recent detention by police in connection with the investigation into Drakeo’s murder. He tied it, at least in his telling, to Drake’s lingering frustration after his rap battle loss to Kendrick Lamar. YG reacted on Aug. 1 with a pair of blunt Instagram Story posts, reposting the claims and writing, “SAY IT AINT SO,” alongside several thinking emojis. He followed that with, “RED ALERT B TEAM TAP IN!”
Then, on Sunday (Aug. 2), Glasses doubled down during a conversation with streamer Poetik Flakko.
“Drake been mad at everybody,” Glasses said, adding that Drake could be “seeding” stories to the media and possibly helping fund Drakeo The Ruler’s family’s wrongful death lawsuit. “We can keep lying. We can keep acting like we don’t care…Obviously, he still got a problem.”
The exchange adds another layer to a case that has hovered around YG for years without ever turning into a charge. Last month, he was detained when police carried out a search warrant at a Burbank, Calif. property he owns as part of the investigation into Drakeo The Ruler’s 2021 killing at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. Festival. YG has long been rumored to have been involved in the stabbing death, though he has never been charged.
That search warrant came about a month after YG tried to answer the accusations directly on record. On We Know the Truth, he denied any involvement in Drakeo’s death with a verse that left little room for ambiguity:
“They say I murdered this, they say I murdered that/Well, if that was true, you’d be a f**king rat,” YG raps. “And I’d be in the cell sleeping on a rack/But too bad that ain’t a f**king fact.”
Drake and YG have their own history, too. The two previously linked up on 2014’s “Who Do You Love?” and 2016’s “Why You Always Hatin.” Drake later backed Drakeo, who had a public beef with YG, and the two collaborated on 2021’s “Talk to Me” months before Drakeo’s death.
