Houston rapper Cartel Bo is now being held without bail after being accused of kidnapping the mother of his three children and keeping her against her will while sexually assaulting her for several days before she managed to get away.
The artist, born Warren Brown, was taken into custody last Saturday, July 25, according to documents obtained by the Houston Chronicle. That arrest was not tied to the kidnapping accusation itself. Instead, he was booked on charges of family violence assault and assault causing bodily injury over allegations that he attacked the same woman and her Uber driver in June.
Court records say the woman escaped the following day after Brown was not present. The more serious allegations date to Tuesday, July 21, when investigators say Brown abducted her and would not let her leave. According to the case file, she eventually broke out of a locked closet while still wearing handcuffs. A nearby resident reportedly found her, gave her food and called police. Officers later located her at a Waffle House still in cuffs, after which she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Brown was then officially charged with kidnapping.
Police reportedly recovered zip ties from the home where the alleged kidnapping took place, along with a deadbolt installed on the closet door. Fast-food wrappers were also said to have been found inside the closet.
Speaking to KPRC 2 News, his attorney Sam Milledge addressed the allegations: "[They are] not the prettiest, but at the same time, I’ve dealt with worse and you just have to let these things play out."
Cartel Bo is scheduled to return to court on Monday, August 3, for a hearing on the felony cases tied to the aggravated kidnapping and family assault allegations. He will then be back in court on Friday, August 7, on the misdemeanor charge of allegedly assaulting the Uber driver.
