Kendrick Lamar Surprises 7-Year-Old Detroit Boy Romell Frazier Jr. After Dog Attack Left Him Without Both Arms
Kendrick Lamar surprised 7-year-old Detroit fan Romell Frazier Jr. with a video call after a dog attack led to both of his arms being amputated.
For a kid recovering from a devastating injury, the smallest birthday wish can carry a lot of weight. For 7-year-old Detroit native Romell Frazier Jr., that wish was simple: he wanted to hear from Kendrick Lamar. On Friday, July 31, the Compton rapper made sure it happened, jumping on a video call with the young fan months after a dog attack left him without both arms.
Romell had only recently returned home from the hospital after an ordeal that stretched across much of the spring. Following the call, Kendrick invited him to Los Angeles to meet in person. Romell’s first response was as sweet as it was practical: he wanted to know whether his mom could come too.
Before ending the FaceTime, Kendrick spoke directly to the boy in a message that landed with the kind of gravity the moment called for.
“You continue to be great, continue to keep that smile on your face. You’re giving us a whole lot of inspiration with how strong you are. You got a beautiful life to live.”
He also took a moment to acknowledge Romell’s mother, Preshauna Jones, who had been helping him stay positive through months of surgeries and rehabilitation.
“It goes to show how great of a parent you are,” Kendrick told her. “He had that smile on him, and he’s just pushing, and he’s showing that strength.”
Romell’s injuries came after he was attacked by two pit bulls in Detroit on March 19. The attack caused such severe damage that both of his arms had to be amputated, along with serious injuries to his leg and foot. He spent two months in the hospital before finally heading back home in May.
