In a rap landscape where blockbuster singles can still reshape an artist’s legacy years after release, Cardi B has added another rare marker to hers. The RIAA has certified “WAP,” her 2020 collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, diamond, making Cardi the first female rapper with four diamond songs.
On Monday, August 3, the blockbuster single officially crossed 10 million units sold in the U.S., giving Cardi her fourth diamond plaque overall, more than any other woman in rap. It also becomes the first collaboration between two female rappers to hit the milestone, while marking the first diamond certification of Megan’s career.
Originally released in August 2020 as what was meant to be the lead single from Cardi’s long-awaited sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, “WAP” arrived as a hugely visible event record. Produced by Ayo the Producer and Keyz, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and quickly took over the year’s conversation. The album itself wouldn’t actually arrive for another five years, though the song was still ultimately placed on the project.

The new certification now sits alongside Cardi’s other diamond records: “Bodak Yellow,” her 2017 breakout, “I Like It” with Bad Bunny and J Balvin from 2018, and her feature on Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” also released in 2018.
She reacted quickly on X, writing, “Awww y’all WAP just went diamond… me and @theestallion really did that!! Love y’all so much… thank you for streaming and making history with us #WAP.” Megan shared the post and responded, “WOWW omg diamond sisterrr thank you for having me.”
