Fivio Foreign Taps The Fire Choir for Gospel Turn on New Single “Chasin”

Fivio Foreign’s latest move lands somewhere between reinvention and testimony. The Brooklyn rapper returned on July 31 with a new gospel track, "Chasin." featuring The Fire Choir, after spending weeks teasing a non-secular pivot that now feels very much in motion.

On the record, Fivio leans into prayer and scripture with the kind of directness that marks a real stylistic swerve from the drill lane he helped push forward. “I said I work this/I went to church for this/I open the bible and I read the word for the nourishment,” he raps. “I say I pray a lot/And I pray that I meet all my purposes/And I pray that he keeping me flourishing/And I pray that use me for encouragement.”

The song arrives with a music video shot in a downtrodden area in Patterson, N.J., reinforcing the street-level setting that has always framed much of Fivio’s work, even as he moves toward something more openly devotional.

That shift has been gathering for months. Back in December, Fivio announced he was entering a rehab facility, and he was blunt about what led him there. “I feel like I’m just at a point where I wanna change,” he said then. “I wanna live and I wanna stop making a lot of dumb decisions and a lot of dumb mistakes that I been making.”

Since then, he’s been sharing pieces of his sobriety journey with fans on social media. In late July, he began hinting at the gospel direction more explicitly, framing it as the next chapter in a career that has already reshaped a corner of New York rap. “When I was taking drill to the next level and change’n the whole ascetic of Drill rap and new generation they told me I wouldn’t work,” he tweeted. “Now imma show yall how a Gangsta could do a Gosple song. Inna hood and save the trenches.”

He ended that thought with a promise that sounded equal parts manifesto and warning: “This run is gon be Biblical.”
