Young Thug Pays Tribute to Young Scooter With New Portrait Tattoo
Young Thug shared a video of getting a Young Scooter portrait tattoo in tribute to the late Atlanta rapper.
The Atlanta rap world has long been one of those scenes where grief, memory, and loyalty move in public. Young Thug made that plain this week by getting a tattoo of Young Scooter, the late rapper whose presence ran through the city’s recent history.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Thugger shared a video on his Instagram Story showing him getting a portrait tattoo of Scooter on his arm. The clip catches the tattoo artist at work, recreating an image of Scooter rocking a stars-and-stripes bandana from his Street Lottery mixtape era. Playing over the video is “Always My Fault,” a music video from Thug’s nephew Bslime.
Young Scooter, born Kenneth Bailey, died on his 39th birthday, March 28, 2025, after accidentally cutting his leg on a wooden fence while fleeing from police. Officers attempted to help with a tourniquet, but he later died from blood loss at a local hospital.
The ATL-bred rapper was among the first acts signed to Future’s Freebandz label and broke through with 2012’s “Columbia,” taken from the Street Lottery mixtape. He later signed a joint deal with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Global Music imprint. In a city where affiliations matter and histories stay visible, Scooter was both a close friend to Thug and a respected figure among his peers.
Elsewhere, Thug has been sounding out a different kind of alliance. Earlier this month, the YSL leader jumped into the comments on one of Quavo’s posts and asked him to join his label. “Leave capital and come with us brada we need u,” he wrote. Quavo didn’t respond publicly, but the two have shared records before, including 2017’s “Guwop,” which also featured Offset and Young Scooter.
