Mystikal Sentenced to 20 Years for 2022 Prairieville Rape

Mystikal was sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to a 2022 rape; he pleaded to third-degree rape and has prior sexual assault convictions.

The New Orleans rapper Mystikal was handed a 20-year prison term on Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier this year to a rape that prosecutors say took place at his Prairieville, Louisiana home in July 2022.

According to a WBRZ report, published on Tuesday (June 12), Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, received a 20-year prison sentence for a rape that occurred in July of 2022 at his Prairieville, La. home.

In court, the alleged victim delivered a harrowing impact statement in which she asked the judge to impose the maximum punishment, recounting that Mystikal had punched and choked her, pulled out her braids and forcibly raped her in his home.

the victim asked the judge to give the New Orleans rapper the maximum sentence for punching her, choking her, pulling out her braids and forcibly raping her in his home.

After the victim spoke, Mystikal was allowed to address the courtroom but was instructed to direct his comments to the judge rather than the woman who had spoken. “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence,” he said, looking forward in the courtroom.

The judge sentenced the 55-year-old rhymer to 20 years for third-degree rape — a term the report notes is five years shy of the statutory maximum for that charge. Mystikal had pleaded guilty on March 17, 2026 to the lesser third-degree rape charge after originally being arrested and charged with first-degree rape in 2022, a count that can carry a life sentence.

XXL has reached out to Mystikal’s attorney for comment.

This sentence lands on the continued arc of Mystikal’s fraught legal history. Following a 2003 incident involving his hairstylist, he served six years in prison after convictions for sexual battery and extortion. He was also accused of rape in 2017, though that later case was dismissed for insufficient evidence.
