Tay Keith’s family confirmed the Memphis producer’s death, praising his work, philanthropy and asking for privacy as peers pay tribute.

The sudden death of Memphis son and hitmaker Tay Keith has left a wound in the music community and a family asking for space to grieve. BryTavious “Tay Keith” Chambers was found in his Nashville apartment on Thursday afternoon, June 18; his family publicly confirmed his passing on Friday, June 19.
In a formal statement the family framed Chambers not simply as a charting producer but as a cultural architect and community builder, someone whose work and philanthropy extended beyond studio credits.
“BryTavious was a visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural force whose work helped define the sound of a generation. From Memphis to the global stage, he shaped countless hit records and left a lasting mark on music and culture,” the statement reads. “He was deeply committed to creating opportunities for others through his company, Drumatized, supporting emerging songwriters, producers, and artists.”
“A proud graduate and honorary professor of Middle Tennessee State University, BryTavious remained an active alumnus, mentor, and advocate for young creatives. He was also a passionate supporter of mental health awareness and cancer-related causes in honor of his late mother,” the family continues.
“Above all, BryTavious was a beloved son, brother, uncle, family member, and friend. While the world knew him as Tay Keith, his family knew him as BryTavious—a source of love, strength, laughter, and guidance,” the statement adds. “We take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the music he created, the opportunities he provided, and the lives he touched. We respectfully ask for privacy and continued prayers for his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Memorial arrangements will be shared at a later date.”
Police say Chambers was 29. Nashville officers discovered his body during a welfare check; while the cause of death has not been released, investigators have ruled out foul play.
Chambers rose from Memphis beat-making circles to become one of the game’s go-to producers, earning Grammy nominations and plaudits from peers across hip-hop. Beyond credits, the family emphasis on Drumatized and mentorship is notable: they frame his career as an effort to open doors for the next generation of writers and producers.
News of his death prompted immediate reactions online. Several of the Grammy-nominated hitmaker’s collaborators and contemporaries posted condolences, underscoring the reach of his work and relationships.
“Damn cuz you just hurt me bad,” BlocBoy JB wrote on Instagram, attaching a dated photo of himself and Tay.
Producer Mike WiLL Made-It offered a longer salute on social media: “Rest up young legend , honored to have met you and made history with you in this lifetime,” he wrote, “Gone so early , thankful for your contributions to the game true artist true legend and inspiration ! Gone but never forgotten….”
Other artists and producers, including Juicy J and The Alchemist, also shared messages of grief and remembrance, reflecting how Chambers’ beats threaded through both mainstream hits and the more underground edges of hip-hop.
R.I.P. Tay Kieth.
