Diddy Countersues Rodney Jones Over Claims He Stole Footage for 50 Cent’s Netflix Doc
Diddy has countersued Rodney Jones, accusing him of stealing footage meant for his own documentary and selling it to 50 Cent’s Netflix project.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has fired back at Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, accusing the producer of stealing footage that was meant for his own documentary and passing it along for 50 Cent’s Netflix series.
According to court documents obtained by XXL on Thursday (Aug. 13), Combs filed a counterclaim on Tuesday (Aug. 11) against Jones, who is already suing him for sexual assault, harassment and unpaid work. In the filing, Combs’ legal team says Jones was “shamelessly abusing his position of trust to gain unauthorized access to video footage belonging to Diddy to violate federal and state laws and…to spread baseless lies about Mr. Combs in pursuit of an undeserved payout.”
The counterclaim alleges that Jones took computer drives containing footage intended for Combs’ own life documentary and then sold the material to Netflix and/or 50 Cent for a documentary centered on the music mogul. That project was the four-part docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, executive produced by 50 Cent, which tracked Diddy’s rise and collapse, including years of sexual misconduct allegations and his later arrest on sex-crime charges. The series drew millions of views and picked up three Emmy nominations, a fact Fif has clearly enjoyed.
“As a result of Mr. Jones’s unlawful conduct, Mr. Combs lost the exclusive use of his footage and suffered significant financial and reputational harm,” Combs’ attorneys argue in the counterclaim.
XXL has reached out to Diddy’s legal team for comment.
Jones, meanwhile, has stood by the $30 million lawsuit he filed, repeating his accusations that Diddy sexually assaulted him and pressured him into sexual encounters with sex workers while he worked on the Grammy-nominated Love Album: Off The Grid between September 2022 and November 2023.
“He’s a monster. He’ll do whatever is necessary to get exactly what he wants. He doesn’t take no for an answer. He [told me] himself, ‘I’ll smack my mama.’ Anybody who can say that even jokingly is a monster,” he told Rolling Stone in August 2024.
Jones’ suit is one of several filed against Combs since November 2023, as the wave of litigation surrounding him has continued to mount.
