Gloss Up Recounts the Crash That Left Her With Rods in Her Leg

By the time Gloss Up went live from a hospital bed on Tuesday, July 14, the Memphis rapper had already spent hours trying to make sense of a wreck so violent she initially believed her foot had been amputated. The details she shared filled in the gaps behind the alarm she caused earlier, when she told fans her foot was gone after the accident.

Speaking on Instagram Live, Gloss made clear that she wasn’t trying to mislead anyone when she first described the injury that sent her to the hospital for emergency surgery. From where she was lying, the damage felt that extreme.

“Y’all, I was not tryna mislead y’all when I said that my leg was amputated,” the Memphis rapper explained. “But it was off! Like my leg was just like, [hanging]. When I wrecked, I instantly thought about my kids and […] I was like, I’m glad they not in the car.

“My leg was dangling,” she continued. “I don’t think I was misleading y’all because that’s really what it was. I kept asking the paramedics like, ‘Is my leg gone?’ And they was like, [shrug]. I’m just like, ‘Please, please, please!’ Y’all, it took me so long to get on that stretcher.”

Gloss said the crash happened around 3 a.m. on an expressway, where she struck a black car that had already spun out and stopped before she got there. The impact was strong enough to deploy her airbags, and in the moment she says she was convinced the injury had cost her the limb.

“I just knew my leg was gone,” she added. “But y’all, they done sewed me up real good and they gave me stuff. I was high as f**k. I got nails and rods and stuff in my leg now.”

Even while she’s confined to bed, Gloss is still planning to keep one date intact. Her birthday shoot is still happening, though the setting will need to be adjusted to accommodate the injury. “Y’all know I don’t play about my birthday shoot!” she laughed. Gloss Up turns 29 on Thursday, July 16.
