Meerkats Named for Cardi B and Biggie Welcome Fifth Litter at Scottish Safari Park
A meerkat pair nicknamed Cardi B and Biggie at Blair Drummond Safari Park in Scotland have welcomed their fifth litter, five pups born May 5, 2026.

At Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park near Stirling, a meerkat couple carrying celebrity nicknames has done what breeding programs do best: keep multiplying. The pair affectionately known as Cardi B and Biggie welcomed five new pups on May 5 — their fifth litter since they arrived at the park in 2022.
For keepers and casual visitors alike the early days are quietly dramatic. Meerkat pups are born blind, deaf and almost hairless, so they spend their first weeks tucked away in burrows while the rest of the group, or mob, shoulders the work of care and protection. Those subterranean days ended for this batch on May 29, 2026, when the quintet made their first public appearances in the enclosure.
A proper family effort
Speaking to staff at the park, Pets Farm Team Leader Carolyn Booth laid out the small domestic rituals that make meerkat life function as a communal enterprise.
“The pups are starting to find their feet and already you can see their little personalities emerging,” said Carolyn Booth. “It’s a brilliant stage to watch and the whole mob has really stepped up to help raise them. It’s a proper family effort, and the group dynamic is fascinating to see at this size.”
The helpers are often older siblings, a behavior that keeps the mob resilient and gives the youngsters a better shot at survival. After a few weeks above ground, the pups will open their eyes and begin sampling solid foods, shifting from the total dependence of those first blind, furless days.
This latest brood is not a one-off — Cardi B and Biggie have been prolific since their 2022 arrival. On Sept. 28, 2025, the pair produced four pups, and across five litters they are now parents to 19 meerkats living in the habitat. The naming nod to rap stars is part of a long tradition of whimsical zoo names that catch headlines, but the real story here is ordinary and insistently natural: a successful social animal family doing what families do.
