Megan Thee Stallion Tells Michelle Obama About Act III, Queen Latifah, and Protecting Her Mental Health

Megan Thee Stallion told Michelle Obama about Act III, acting plans inspired by Queen Latifah, and stepping back from social media.

Megan Thee Stallion used a recent conversation with Michelle Obama to sketch out where she’s headed next, and it wasn’t just about the new music. During a wide-ranging appearance on the former First Lady’s IMO podcast with Michelle and her brother Craig Robinson, Megan talked through her next album, her mental health, the social media habits she’s cut back on, and the career path she wants to follow from here.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the Houston rapper spent more than an hour on the podcast reflecting on what she’s building now and what she still wants to try. At the center of it is a new LP that brings back her Tina Snow alter ego, though she’s still referring to the project as Act III for the time being until she settles on a final title.

She described this version of Tina as older, changed, and well beyond the last time fans encountered her. Megan also hinted at the kind of guest spots she has in mind, saying the record includes collaborations that should satisfy long-running requests from the Hotties while also surprising the rest of the crowd.

“Tina is grown now, babe,” she said. “She has been through lots of life since y’all heard from her last. And I have so many collaborations that I feel like the hotties have been asking me for […] that are overdue. I feel like Act III is going to be one of my favorite projects I ever put out because I definitely took my time with this one.”

Acting is part of the plan too. Megan said she wants to move further into that world and named Queen Latifah as the model she keeps coming back to, pointing to the way the rapper-turned-actor has built a career that extends well past music.

“I always got to give her always got to give her her flowers because she is just so inspirational, yes!” she proclaimed. “And I’m like, okay, Queen Latifah, this is my route. This is who I’m modeling this after.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Megan spoke plainly about a stretch when her mental health was difficult and she felt like withdrawing from public life. She said she’s in a better place now, but also more careful about what gets access to her, including the apps she keeps off her phone.

“I definitely had to realize, okay, what is triggering me, what upset me, what’s making me feel sad, and how can I control my own emotions?” she said. “I don’t have Twitter, I don’t have Instagram on my phone.”
