Mystikal’s Son Speaks Out After Rapper Receives 20-Year Sentence

Mystikal's son Million Tyler speaks to TMZ after his father received a 20-year sentence, expressing sympathy for the victim and reflecting on his music.

After a judge handed Mystikal a 20-year prison sentence, the rapper’s son Million Tyler spoke publicly for the first time, grappling with the split realities of sympathy for the victim and concern for his father.

Speaking to TMZ

Speaking to TMZ on Monday (June 22), Million described the emotional ambivalence the case has created for him.

“I feel bad for the victim as well as my father,” he said. “Nobody wins from these situations. It’s hard for both parties.”

He didn’t hedge when he addressed his father’s choices: “A lot of decisions that he made I don’t agree with,” Million added, acknowledging that the situation has forced him to carry a complicated mix of feelings.

“It’s a lot to deal with, a lot to compartmentalize in my mind. It creates a huge array of different emotions and things to have to deal with from the situation,” he said.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Million spoke candidly about how the legal storm affected his own creative path. Trying to establish himself as an artist, he said the case briefly stalled his work but that he is now focused on moving forward.

“I’m trying to be my own artist, you know what I’m saying? So, I have to keep pushing so that I can continue to elevate myself. It did slow me down with music for a little bit. It definitely made me stop for a while trying to get myself together, you know, but now as time’s going forward, I can continue to push myself to keep going.”

Million also left a message for his father: “I hope you get the help you need. I really hope you do. I hope [serving time] does [help].”

Earlier this month, on June 12, Mystikal was sentenced to 20 years for a rape that prosecutors say took place in July 2022 at his home in Prairieville, La. At the sentencing hearing the victim asked the judge to impose the maximum term, describing violence that included punching, choking, pulling out her braids and forcibly raping her in his home.

Those allegations arrived against the backdrop of Mystikal’s prior criminal history: he was convicted of sexual battery in June 2003, served six years in prison and was released in January 2010, after which he was required to register as a sex offender.
