NBA Ben10 returned to social media on Wednesday night (June 17) to thank supporters who have been praying for him during a recovery that has followed two shootings this year — one in Houston that left him with a severe spinal injury and another back home in Baton Rouge just weeks later.

The Baton Rouge, La. rapper, an affiliate of the Never Broke Again collective, posted a brief clip in which he estimates he is aiming to “be up” by Christmas. There is a bluntness to the update that matches the blunt facts: his path back is uncertain, but he’s addressing fans directly.

“To all the ones who prayed for me, thank you for the good prayers. I’m still in this joint,” he says in the clip. “We are shooting for Christmas for me to be up whipping your a*s again. Gang.”

The first shooting occurred on April 8 at the Confessions restaurant in Houston after what authorities described as an attempted robbery targeting Detroit rapper Allstar JR, who was with Ben10 that night. According to reports, JR grabbed a gun during the altercation and fired multiple rounds, striking at least two people, including Ben.

Houston authorities later revealed that Ben10 had suffered “irreversible paralysis of the lower extremities” from a sustained spine injury, details that appear in felony charges filed against Allstar JR in Harris County Court for aggravated assault.

Just five weeks later WBRZ reported the NBA Ben10 was shot again in his hometown of Baton Rouge. He was one of three people injured in that incident; officials released no further information.
