Travis Scott Sued Over Alleged Miami Yacht Fight After Charges Were Dropped
Travis Scott is facing a civil lawsuit over a 2024 Miami yacht incident after criminal charges tied to the case were dropped.
Travis Scott’s June 2024 Miami yacht incident is back in the headlines, this time as a civil case. After prosecutors dropped the criminal charges tied to the episode, employees of the boat charter service are now suing the rapper over what they describe as a violent confrontation aboard the vessel.
On Tuesday, TMZ reported that the plaintiffs filed court documents claiming Scott chartered a boat in Miami in June 2024 and grew angry when the captain would not allow him to use the jet skis because he was intoxicated. According to the filing, Scott allegedly told the captain to dock the boat, left, then returned about 30 minutes later in an especially confrontational state.
The suit says the captain eventually decided to end the outing, which allegedly escalated the situation further. From there, the plaintiffs claim Scott attacked the captain and threatened to kill him. They also say he assaulted several yacht employees who stepped in before police arrived and removed him from the boat. The workers are suing for battery, assault, false imprisonment and additional claims, and are seeking unspecified damages.
Scott was arrested in June 2024 and charged with two counts of disorderly intoxication and trespassing. At the time, his attorney, Bradford Cohen, pushed back hard against the idea that there had been a fight.
“There was absolutely no physical altercation involved, and we thank the authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution,” he told XXL.
Two months later, prosecutors dropped all charges.
Bradford Cohen calls the civil case a “money grab”
In an update dated July 14, attorney Bradford Cohen, who handled the criminal charges connected to the incident, gave XXL a new statement on the civil lawsuit.
“We are currently not representing Mr. Scott on this frivolous civil lawsuit. We very clearly beat all the criminal charges that were filed against Mr. Scott that evening because they had no basis in law or fact. He was never charged, nor was he even accused of a battery that evening. He was arrested for Disorderly Intox. and Trespassing. This case is nothing more than an attempt at a money grab and I believe they will not be successful. In fact I would counter sue for the breach of contract by the Capt. , crew and owner of the yacht.”
