Tyga debuts $TARFACE, a neon-soaked 1980s alter ego, and prepares synth-wave single "GAVE U RACKS" for July 3.

There’s a particular kind of cultural recycling that thrives on excess and costume, and Tyga has leaned into it headfirst. The Los Angeles veteran has introduced an alter ego called $TARFACE, swapping his usual rap cadence for a full 1980s makeover: think Jheri curl, leather vests and an unapologetic amount of leopard print.
Tyga teased the persona across Instagram this week, and on Friday, July 3, he plans to drop the first single from the new era, titled “GAVE U RACKS.” Early reports say the track pushes Tyga into singing territory over a synth-wave beat — a clear stylistic detour from his recent rap-focused work.
In a separate post a few weeks earlier, he previewed another retro-leaning cut alongside Fenix Flexin. The clip — a face-off of sorts between Tyga’s new aesthetic and Fenix’s own synth-pop leanings — surfaced as a preview of another 1980s-inspired song they’re calling “LAVI$H.” The short visual blew up online, registering more than 13 million views and roughly 15,000 comments at the time of writing.
It remains unclear whether “LAVI$H” will be credited to Fenix Flexin or to $TARFACE, which speaks to how fluid identity and authorship are becoming in these era-minded rollouts.
Tyga’s last full-length effort, NSFW, arrived in 2025 and read like a who’s-who of features: Big Sean, Flo Milli, Lil Wayne, Shenseea, Cher, Lil Tjay and Ty Dolla $ign all turn up across the project. That LP marked his first solo release in six years and largely stayed in his familiar rap lane, which makes the $TARFACE pivot feel intentional and a bit theatrical — a left turn rather than a gradual evolution.
The visuals and the music point to an artist leaning into persona-driven pop culture reference points, testing how far a stylistic pivot can travel before it becomes a reinvention. Whether $TARFACE is a temporary costume or the beginning of a sustained sonic detour will be clearer when “GAVE U RACKS” lands.
