YG Reportedly Detained in Burbank as Drakeo The Ruler Investigation Continues

YG was briefly detained in Burbank during a search warrant tied to the Drakeo The Ruler murder investigation, then released.

The Drakeo The Ruler case has kept circling back through Los Angeles rap for years now, and on Thursday morning it pulled YG into the frame again. According to reports, the Compton rapper was briefly detained by police in California and later released.

TMZ reported on July 23 that the California Highway Patrol and a SWAT team carried out a search warrant at a property owned by YG in Burbank. The warrant, TMZ said, was connected to the ongoing investigation into Drakeo The Ruler’s 2021 killing. Video posted by TMZ shows YG standing outside a building with officers nearby.

YG has long been surrounded by speculation in connection with Drakeo’s stabbing death at the Once Upon a Time at LA Festival, but he has never been charged. He’s repeatedly denied involvement, and he addressed the rumors directly on “We Know the Truth,” a song from his latest album The Gentlemen’s Club.

“They say I murdered this, they say I murdered that/Well, if that was true, you’d be a f**king rat,” YG raps on the track. “And I’d be in the cell sleeping on a rack/But too bad that ain’t a f**king fact.”

“I came to get the dough, was finna hit the stage/Then I heard how y’all heard, somebody got hit with a blade,” he continues. “I heard ni**as saying, ‘YG paid’/Stop lying, ni**a, come run YG fade.”

Elsewhere, the timing adds another layer to a tense day: despite the reported detainment, YG’s scheduled Verzuz with The Game is still said to be going ahead tonight.

XXL has reached out to YG’s team and the California Highway Patrol for comment.
